RT HON ROBERT JENRICK MP

Member of Parliament for Newark & Bingham

Welcome

My team and I are here to help you.

Whether you need help getting a public service to deliver for you, want to start a business or community initiative, or voice your views on national issues or legislation that Parliament is considering, we are here for you.

We pride ourselves on fighting hard for our constituents and our communities and not giving up.

Some of our successful campaigns include:

- Securing investment into local transport infrastructure, particularly the dualing of the A46 around Newark and the Newark Southern Link Road;

- Assisting in the founding of the Suthers Free School, and securing part of the funding for the ASI engineering college;

- Renewing high streets and town centres, such as through the Newark Town Deal;

- Increasing the range of NHS services available at Newark Hospital and working with Sherwood Forest NHS Trust to ensure high standards of care despite the residual pressures from the Pandemic.

We also get involved, supporting and enabling practical action to improve lives. We have organised Jobs Fairs to help thousands of local people into work, as well as Senior Citizens and Community Fairs to promote strong communities.

We believe in being as accessible as possible and encouraging interest in politics and public service in our area. That’s why we’ve organised coach trips to Parliament for over 8,000 residents and I offer regular work experience placements for young people in Newark and Westminster.

If you’d like to come and see me, please ask for a surgery appointment. Otherwise, we may be able to assist you by phone, letter or email. My team and I would be happy to help.

 FAQs

  • I am the elected constituency MP for Newark & Bingham. If you live within the constituency, my team and I will be able to assist you or signpost you to help services or take on a case on your behalf.

    Where it may be a local authority issue, we may also be able to put you in direct contact with your local councillor.

    Please get in touch using the ‘Contact Me’ page.

  • The UK public elects Members of Parliament (MPs) to represent their interests and concerns in the House of Commons. MPs consider and can propose new laws as well as raising issues that matter to you in the House. This includes asking government ministers questions about current issues including those which affect local constituents.

    MPs split their time between working in Parliament itself, working in the constituency that elected them and working for their political party.

    Some MPs from the governing party (or parties) become government ministers with specific responsibilities in certain areas, such as Health or Defence. These MPs do not stop working for their constituency and, whatever their role in Government or Parliament, will still hold regular surgeries to help their constituents.

  • When Parliament is sitting (meeting), MPs generally spend their time working in the House of Commons. This can include raising issues affecting their constituents, attending debates and voting on new laws. This can either be by asking a question of a government minister on your behalf or by supporting and highlighting particular campaigns which local people feel strongly about.

    Most MPs are also members of committees, which look at issues in detail, from government policy and new laws, to wider topics like human rights.

  • In their constituency, MPs often hold a ‘surgery’ in their office, where local people can come along to discuss any matters that concern them.

    MPs also attend functions, visit schools and businesses and generally try to meet as many people as possible. This gives MPs further insight and context into issues they may discuss when they return to Westminster.

  • If you are a Newark constituency resident or business, we offer face-to-face, telephone and video call surgery appointments for constituents and businesses. Please get in touch with my office by using the contact page.

  • When I was first elected as Member of Parliament for Newark (almost a decade ago), Newark constituency had disappointingly low rates of visits to Parliament. My team and I worked on making the free, official tours of Parliament more accessible to our constituency.

    Newark constituency now has one of the highest visitor figures across all constituencies, having welcomed over 8,000 visitors to Parliament through regular coach trips from the constituency to Westminster. These cost price trips comprise travel to and from Westminster by coach. Whilst at Westminster you will have a tour of both houses of Parliament and a Q&A session with myself, allowing for an insight into the inner-workings of Parliament.

    If you would like to be part of the next trip and experience this opportunity first-hand, please contact my office.
