Protecting freedom of press in the U.K.

Freedom of the press is a key underpinning of our democracy. If major national newspapers and media organisations are able to be purchased by foreign governments the freedom of the press has the potential to be significantly undermined.

The move risks setting a dangerous precedent. Indeed, the U.K. would be the first democracy in the world to allow this to happen.
